Ada's Baptism

We were so fortunate this long holiday weekend to be able to have Ada's baptism on Saturday evening.   Michael & Erin along with Jeff and the boys were able to make it too.   Poor Mindy is recovering from knee surgery so she stayed home.   WE MISSED YOU MINDY

Adventures of the Vine Yard Seekers - Day 1

We started our travels very early Wednesday morning.  2am for me.  I couldn't sleep, I was so excited.   Our flight left at 6:40 so we were at the airport by 5:15.  No problems with security except for they made Mary and Mom go a different direction.   I think they look like high security risks, don't you.

We arrived in Portland Oregon around noon.  That was a long flight.   We couldn't get a direct flight so we had to go to San Diego first, then Portland.

We drove to Scottsburg, OR and stayed at a bed and breakfast.  On our travels to the bed and breakfast we were in search of a Vineyard, we had heard all about the great wineries in Oregon.   Well,  my sister Kathy, who has a way with the English language, said "There's a Vine Yard"    Be sure and pronounce that correctly as 2 words and a long i in Vine.    We then named ourselves the Vine Yard Seekers.

Here's where we stayed:  Day Break Haven

I gotta tell you,  was a little disappointed when we first pulled up but Shelley, the owner was so welcoming and the inside was very nice.   We had a fabulous time.   The Inn sits on the Umpqua River and has beautiful scenery all around.    Disadvantage - we all 4 stayed in one bedroom.   They had a queen size bed and a trundle bed.   Mom gave Mary and Kathy sleeping pills and within 10 minutes the room was completely silent.   Until about 30 minutes later Kathy woke up, stressing about everyone snoring.  Actually, it was Mom and Mary, because I know I don't snore.    Once we gave her Kleenexes for her ears and a pillow to cover her head, we all went back to sleep.

While sitting out on the deck relaxing after a long day, Shelley surprised us with a platter of smoked salmon, cheese, crackers and grapes.    I could get used to this being waited on.

Adventures of the Vine Yard Seekers - Day 2 Part I

After getting a great nights sleep, I'm joking, we were up and ready for our next day of adventures.   Shelley fixed us probably one of the best breakfasts I have ever had.

It included coffee/tea, Frittata with mushrooms, onions, sausage, wine, spices.....OMG it was delicious.   A fruit pizza that was a slice of watermelon topped with fresh fruit and sprinkled with coconut.  Home made bread with home made jams.......delicious just doesn't say enough!

After doing a bit of shopping at the Bed and Breakfast Shelley recommended Shore Acres State Park at Coos Bay.    She told us it was definitely worth the trip.   We had all day so we decided to go for it.

Adventures of the Vine Yard Seekers - Day 2 Part II

While talking with other people at the flower garden they told us we definitely needed to go to Simpson's Reef.   According to them the sea lions were out.   Then go a little further and you will get to Cape Arago.  There's a whale swimming around.    While walking out I ask an employee where there was a light house that we could go up in.   He recommended Cape Blanco, it was a working light house that they let you go up in........We're off for more adventures.

This was so cool, it was like dogs barking and so loud.    Love love loved it!

We then went down the road to check out the whale.   We did see it shoot water out of it's blow hole and a few times saw it's tale flip......no way to catch on film.

After that we were off to Cape Blanco.   I didn't tell anyone where we were going, it was a surprise.   The road leading up the the light house was a little scary and was single lane.   Thank goodness we didn't meet another car on the road.    We got up to the light house at 3:14pm and they stopped doing tours at 3:15pm.    We were lucky, we were the last to get to tour that day.   Mom and Mary stayed on the ground and Kathy and I ventured to the top.   

It was amazing.   I had no idea what was at the top of a light house.   I figured it was a really bright flashlight.   It's a beautiful prism that is about 4' tall.   Massive and is visible for 26 miles.  That's a pretty strong flashlight.

Adventures of the Vine Yard Seekers Day 2 - Part III

I had to break this up in different posts because we had so much packed into such a short time.    The day continues.   As we left we started driving south.   Our ultimate goal, Gold Beach Resort.

As we were driving something caught my eye.    Sasquatch!    Stan told me to keep an eye out for him, and there he was.   OMG   I slammed on my breaks, pulled over and did a U Turn.   I had to have a picture.   No one will ever believe we found him.

We then continued our adventures driving Highway 101,  which runs parallel to the coast line.   Gorgeous.

Now we are off to Gold Beach.    Arrived and had to immediately go check out the beach.

After a full day we relaxed with a bottle of wine and then crashed.
