Bathroom Remodel Done!

Well, it's 99.99% finished.  Still waiting on the contractor to tighten 2 fittings on the shower.   I think I'm just going to get someone else in here.   It's ridiculous that I've had to wait this long.  Ok, now for the details.

Before

The first thing that was to go in this bathroom was the carpet.   Who puts carpet in a bathroom.

Carpet Gone and even with plywood floor it feels so much cleaner.

Then it was time to rip down the 1970's mirror tiles.

It took me then almost 2 years to get to actually working on the bathroom.
The first thing that we did is take out the old shower and knock out the wall
that was a closet to expand the shower.

Then they extended the wall a bit that will be the backside of the new walk in shower.

After

Now I'm happy to show you my finished master bath.

I'm so happy how it turned out.   Now.....what should I work on now?

Stan's World

Stan's world came crumbling down around him last Saturday,  October 31.   He passed out with an oxygen level of 45 and fell down the steps, breaking his upper left arm.    He now along with a broken arm, has Influenza B and COVID.    He sent me a picture of his "World".

Thank you Greg for taking Maggie to a kennel.  I picked her up on Friday and now she's staying with me until Stan gets better.   We are doing daily walks too becuase both of us could use the exercise.

Time for Grout

I have a love hate relationship with grout. I hate it because of the mess but I love it because it means that I'm getting towards the end of my project.

I have a little bit of caulking to do but other than that I'm almost done.

My First New Car

I finally did it.   I bought a car and it's actually my first new car that I've ever had.   It only took me 63 years but I did it.

Ready for Guests

I found a Murphy Bed on Facebook Marketplace.   Super excited to finally get it assembled and up.

First task was to varnish the wood.  I cheated and used varnish with stain.  I know...easy way out.

Then time to remember how to put it together.  I bought it about a month ago too long ago to remember.

Once assembled it was time for the mattress.

Then it's time for a little decor.  Now I'm gready for guests!

Here's what it looks like folded up.   Lots of room for the kids to still have a play room.

Siding Repair

It's been almost a year, September 24, 2019 to be exact.  We had a big hail storm that caused a lot of damage.   The siding guy has been so booked up that he finally started on my house today.

Adding some Pretties

Time to add some color to the wall I just wallpapered.   I love how it turned out.

It's starting to look like my place!

Master Bedroom

Putting the finishing touches on my master bedroom.   Finally found the drapes.   I'm going for a girlie look.   Then I added wallpaper as a headboard.

Photo doesn't do it justice.  It's really pretty.   Time to start putting some decor up now.

Sewing Room

If you remember I hate painting celings.  Well, here I go painting another ceiling.

My sewing room is my happy place so I picked a happy color.   And if truth be known I picked this color because of the name, "Ocean Breeze".   Reminds me of going to see Mike and Erin, one of my favorite destinations.

Well I wanted a happy color, but boy is it bright!

The floor previously had carpet and I really didn't want to go through the expense of refinishing the floor.   I decided to do a DIY.   It's not perfect but it turned out ok.

Here's the floor after the carpet was removed.   Definitely major worn spot at the main traffic area.

So I scrubbed the floor good, stained it and then varnished with a satin varnish.  Not perfect but I see a remarkable improvement.

Now the challenge of fitting all my sewing stuff in there.

Look What I Learned

My next door neighbor is always so willing to help me.  Today he taught me how to change out electrical outlets and light switches.   I did 5 electrical outlets and 1 light switch.  Have 5 more light switches to do.  And don't worry, I turn off the main power so I don't electricuit myself.

Notice the old plugs didn't have the spot for the ground and I was always looking for a 3 prong adapter.

Problem Solved!

Carpet Day

Yippee, it's finally carpet day.   I have everything piled in 3 different rooms so I'm ready to get the carpet in so that I can get started putting my house back together.

AND IT'S FINISHED!

Oh how I have dreamed for this day.

I'm sure they say this to everyone but the carpet installer told me I picked out very nice carpet and shouldn't have any problems at all with it.    Yeah...win for me!

Now the fun begins.

I shouldn't show you these pictures, but now it's time to move everything back to the room where it belongs......so much for taking the week off!

What a Week

What a week is right!   Got so much done, but I'm planning on taking a week just to recouperate.

Carpet is scheduled to be installed on the 20th.  That means the two rooms being carpeted have to be completely cleaned out and painted and of course isn't it just like me to wait until the last minute.  In my defense, I work better under pressure.

So the week actually starts on Thursday evening.   Looking at everything I needed to finish in the family room.  While moving everything out I decided it was time to replace the grout on the hearth. Look at the dirty two tone grout.

Well the grout is no more.   Way to easy to chisel out

Now it's pretty and all one color.....off to the next project for the week.

Saturday I was off to painting the closet.  You don't realize how big a room or closet is until you have to paint it.

I painted the right and left sides of the closet but decided the center would be the same color as my room so that will be painted at that time.

Sunday was definitely not a day of rest and it was time for the ceilings to be painted.   A job I loath just about more than anything, and of course it took 2 coats.

Ceiling done!   Check that off the list.

Monday it was time for another project.   I'm remodeling the master bath and of course it isn't done but I wanted the floor in before the carpet so they could put in the transition between the rooms.    I have never done vinyl plank flooring so had to call Brandon over to get me started and show me the tricks of the trade.....he's really not a floor installer.   Then off I went installing flooring.  I'm super excited how it turned out and I did it!

Flooring took Monday and Tuesday evenings because I'm slow and a rookie so I decided that there was no way I would get everything done by Thursday.   I took Wednesday off and started at 7:30am, bright and early and finished at 11pm.  Can you say exhausted.

Wednesday was painting day.  Two gallons of paint and the my bedroom is "Agreeable Grey".  I love the color but of course since I was tired there are a few spots on the ceiling I'll have to touch up.

Notice my supervisor Riley in the closet!    Spent the remainder of the evening moving all the furniture out so that things would be ready first thing in the morning.

It's the Little Things

Sometimes there just these small jobs that you avoid but when you finish them you don't know why you have procrastinated.   Well today I got 2 of them done.

First my $5 bargain that I got at Lowes.   I hung up 3 of the blinds.  I changed from one really long blind to 2 small on the side and 1 in the middle.   I like this setup so much better.   If I want to open a window I don't have to keep the entire blind open.

I love my small bathroom but there is absolutely no storage.  Thank you Wayfair.  Put this together and got it mounted today.
