Scraping, scraping and more scraping

How much fun this is.  NOT!!!!  Well I got all the fascia scraped so that I can now prime and paint.  Once that's done we can have the gutters put back on.

Good thing is the paint was pretty much hanging off so it wasn't too much work.

There was one area in the front that had some wood rot.  Didn't have a clue what I was doing but that's has never stopped me before.  Why should it start now!

I first cut out the board that was rotten out to the first stud.

Then I pieced in another board and hammered it in.   Doesn't look too bad if I say so myself.

Now I have all the fascia scraped and caulked so they are ready to go.

Next cool day I'll be priming and painting.

Another good thing is I don't have to do around the windows.   They will take care of that when the new windows are installed.  That's scheduled for September 28.  Can't wait.

Oh and if you are wondering about the color,  It's the one on the far left, the lighter shade of yellow, looks almost cream.   Yellow was a little too much.

Beautiful King Size Quilt

I've been able to squeeze a bit of quilting in during my remodel.  I finally finished Jackie's quilt.  It turned out perfect and gifted it to her last week. The biggest challenge on this quilt was figuring out how to do the grey little line that crossed through the quilt.   1000" of bias tape, made by hand.  Now on to the next quilt which will be a surprise for someone.

She's a Natural Seamstress

I got Ada a sewing machine for her birthday and today we finally got to sew.   Her first project was a pillow case and I gotta say, she's a natural.  She listened so well and really did a great job.

Check out the concentration.

Saying Goodbye is Never Easy

It was finally time to let my sweet little Riley go.   She was in kidney failure and it's hard to see them suffer.  My little Ry Ry, as I liked to call her, was with me through all kinds of challenges.  From the divorce to moving 3 times.  She was always by my side driving to and from KC.  She even had her own little car seat.   Sure will miss this sweet angel.

Here she is riding in her car seat.

Love you baby girl

New Roof

Thank you to my heroes John and Justin for doing the roof.   It's a small roof but the smaller they are the harder they fall.   Tear off was a nightmare but once that was done it was all smooth sailing.   We even had a storm kick up Sunday afternoon to give us a welcome break from the heat.

Also thanks to Kathy, Landon and Kinsley for helping with the picking up of the old shingles.

Tear off done and finally able to start putting it back together.

Finishing touches.

and DONE!

Wow, really needs to be painted now.   As soon as cooler weather comes in I will get started.
I'm done with the heat for a while.

Too Lean and Lanky

I have a tree in the front side yard that has been growing like a weed.  Problem is it's going straight up and not really branching out.    The winds last week were just too much for that little tree.

I cut all the heavy hanging limbs off but was told by a master gardener that the tree will never be strong

Well today it succumbed to the winds, that weren't even that strong.

Needless to say that lean and lanky tree is no more.

New Refrigerator

Well, not really a new refrigerator but I was able to buy a used fridge from a friend.   She bought a new house and this one was too big.  Lucky for me and mom!   It's a big one but the price was right and it was only a year old.   Yeah for a bargain.

I'm not really ready for it in the kitchen but the guys were moving it in so I wasn't going to make them come back.  They had to take the doors off to get it out of the other house so I just had them put it in the kitchen.   I can work around it.  Thank you Brandon and Andrew.

As big as the fridge is I decided to move things around.   Glad I haven't attached the cabinets yet.   Moved the fridge to the corner and the stove will go to the left between the 2 small cabinets.

Crawl Space Vents

Living in a house with no basement you have crawl space.  This is something new for me but I'm loving the idea of no steps.

The crawl space vents had a lot of wood rot so I pulled that all out and replaced with pvc boards.   Hopefully no more problems.   Two of the five vents just needed to be cleaned up and painted.   Success, and Done!

This is the before.  I know, pretty yucky!

Here's the after.  I know, quite the improvement.   Now for caulk.

Caulking done! Next project on the outside, painting that horrible green.

Finishing Touches

I'm so excited to finally have my furniture.   I ordered the couch in January and here it is July1 and it's finally here.   I was nervous it might be too red but I love it.   The chairs are new too.  Super excited .... and no I'm not repainting my green wall.   It looks great.

Hint....hint

Notice my new counter at the bottom of my page.  I finally decided on a retirement date!

Fruits of My Labor

I've never had a garden but this year decided to attempt it.   I have 2 tomato plants, a regular and a cherry tomato.  It isn't much but my first crop.  They are delicious!

Sanding Cabinet Boxes

Refinishing the cabinets is time consuming but they are coming right along.  Three rounds of stripping and then sanding.   Looking good.

A/C Is In

I know it doesn't sound like much but when it's 100 degrees having A/C makes all the difference in the world.   Excited that the heating and air conditioning is done in the house.   This was the big expense getting the house livable so now I can get busy on the inside and get it ready for Gigi.

New furnace!

Duct work ran through the entire house.   With old gravity flow furnaces there were no vents.

A new thermostat that lights up.  Only the best for mom!

Brand new A/C unit.   First time this house has had central air.

On a side note it does look like I'm going to learn how to do sheetrock.   There are 2 holes from the old furnace that are no longer needed.  At least it's cool in the house while I'm learning.

New Heating and Air

This was the major expense of the house but I think it's well worth the cost.   The house had an old gravity flow furnace with no a/c.   Gravity has one furnace in the center of the house with no vents at all.  They will be running vents through the house in the crawl space.     Can't wait until this is done so I can work comfortably in the house.

You know it's going to be expensive when you see three trucks pull up, but it will be worth it!

Out with the old.

Ready or Not Here I Come

Have never repainted kitchen cabinets but I guess there's no time like the present to learn.   I've got everything laid out and ready to dive right in.

I've got all the doors laid out in the garage ready to start.

There are so many coats of paint, this should be fun!

Three different coats of stripper until I could finally see wood.
